A man allegedly murdered his stepdaughter before committing suicide at a tenanted house in Ho Chi Minh City on Saturday.
Officers under the municipal Department of Public Security confirmed on Saturday they were coordinating with the police unit in District 7 to investigate the death of Ngo Van M., 46, and his stepdaughter Nguyen Thi Truc L., 17.
Preliminary investigation revealed that only the two victims were present at the scene when the incident happened.
L. was found on the mezzanine with many wounds across her body.
A pair of bloody scissors was found next to L., and there was blood on the floor and wall.
The stepfather was discovered on the ground floor and near the kitchen, and there was also a pair of scissors next to him.
A source close to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper stated that M. could have killed his stepdaughter with the scissors before committing suicide.

According to family members, L. was the youngest child in a family of four children.
L.’s mother got divorced seven years ago, and only L. lives with her mother at the tenanted house in District 7.
M. moved in with L. and her mother about one year ago.
The mother was in the Mekong Delta province of An Giang to do some paperwork at the time of the incident.
A neighbor said she heard L.’s scream early on Saturday morning.
People rushed to help but the door was locked from the inside, so they called the police.
