A man from Nghe An Province, north-central Vietnam has been sentenced to death for murdering his daughter and her boyfriend last year.
The provincial People’s Court on Wednesday imposed the death penalty upon Le Dinh Ngoc, 43, for murder.
The victims were L.T.N., Ngoc’s 17-year-old daughter, and H.Q.A., N.'s 18-year-old boyfriend.
On the evening of July 4, 2022, Ngoc and his family were eating dinner when an argument broke out between him and his daughter, the indictment showed.
Ngoc intended to slap his daughter but was stopped by others. The daughter then left the house.
At about 9:00 pm the same day, Ngoc went looking for N. and her boyfriend.
After spotting N. and A. traveling on a motorbike, Ngoc chased them down and forced them to pull over.
The couple then left their motorbike and ran into a nearby house.
Ngoc grabbed two knives from his motorbike and followed them.
He stabbed A. on the left side of his chest before attacking N.
A. ran a short distance before collapsing.
N. also attempted to flee but was eventually caught and repeatedly stabbed by Ngoc.
Ngoc later returned home and drank pesticide in an attempt to commit suicide.
After discovering the incident, local residents took the three to the hospital, but N. and A. did not survive.
During the trial, Ngoc said that he was drunk and unable to control himself.
In addition to the death sentence, Ngoc was required to pay A.'s family more than VND260 million (US$11,000) in compensation.
