A toddler who had been hospitalized with two other children after eating toad meat died in Vietnam’s Central Highlands province of Gia Lai on Friday, according to the Medical Center of Chu Se District.
The medical center admitted the three children - 14-year-old D.Th., six-year-old D.Ng., and two-year-old N.D.Th.T. - in a state of constant vomiting in the morning of the same day.
Doctors could not measure T.’s blood pressure and pulse.
The child’s pupils dilated and their skin turned pale.
The center’s medical staff then conducted 30 minutes of intensive resuscitation on T. but the baby did not survive.
The Chu Se medical center determined that T. died of toad meat poisoning and handed over the body to their family for funeral arrangements.
The other two children have regained stable health, good physical response, and normal heart and lung function.
While eating toad meat is not recommended as the animal contains venom in its skin and glands, poisoning cases caused by eating toad are not rare in Vietnam, especially in rural areas.
