Police in Binh Thuan Province, south-central Vietnam on Saturday evening managed to recover the last body of four schoolchildren who drowned while bathing in a local canal.
The fatal incident took place at around 4:00 pm the same day, according to police officers.
A group of five schoolchildren went out to pick lotus flowers before taking a bath in the canal leading to the Song Quao Lake section bordering the two communes of Ham Phu and Thuan Minh in Ham Thuan Bac District.
When four of the schoolchildren, all girls, were bathing in the canal, they were swept away by rushing water.
The remaining one, a schoolboy, who was standing on the canal bank, shouted out for help.
Several local residents rushed to the scene of the incident and recovered the bodies of three of the girls, while the fourth body was retrieved by local police in the evening.
The four deceased were studying at an elementary school in Ham Phu Commune.
