-- Typhoon Talim, the first storm to have entered the East Vietnam Sea this year, has gained power, packing winds of 103-133 kilometers per hour and causing heavy rains throughout the country, according to the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting’s update on Monday morning.

-- National carrier Vietnam Airlines rescheduled flights to and from Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday due to heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

-- The traffic police department under the Ministry of Public Security and police in northern Phu Tho Province are investigating a hit-and-run incident where a truck slammed into a pedestrian illegally walking on the Noi Bai-Lao Cai Expressway on Sunday. The driver accelerated and fled the scene after the accident. 

-- A temporary bridge collapsed in the Mekong Delta province of Tra Vinh on Sunday after its construction team conducted a load test using two trucks.

Business

-- Vietnam spent US$1.6 billion on the importation of various types of automobiles, amounting to approximately 70,000 units in January-June, according to data provided by the General Department of Vietnam Customs and car brands.

-- The Vietnamese government has disbursed approximately VND215.6 trillion ($9.1 billion), equivalent to 30.49 percent of the planned amount, for public investment capital in January-June, according to the draft report on the socio-economic situation in the first six months of this year by the Government Personnel Committee.

-- Vietjet has officially launched a direct flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Haneda Airport in Tokyo, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

-- All five Vietnamese students have brought home two gold, two silver, and one bronze medals at the 2023 International Physics Olympiad held in Japan.

Sports

-- Vietnam won the women’s 4x400 meter relay gold medal at the 2023 Asian Athletics Championships in Thailand on Sunday.

-- “Carlos Alcaraz heralded the changing of the guard in men's tennis as he ended Novak Djokovic’s long reign at Wimbledon with a rip-roaring 1-6 7-6(6) 6-1 3-6 6-4 victory to win the All England Club title for the first time on Sunday,” Reuters reported.
