Police in Da Nang City, central Vietnam, are advising the public to remain vigilant about drugs concealed in food and beverages in the wake of the discoveries of addictive substances in the locality.
The technology crime bureau at the Da Nang Department of Public Security issued the notice after it had received inspection requests for powder-like substances contained in plastic packets labeled as “White Coffee” and “Coffee House” discovered and seized by the city police in different raids.
Examination results showed that the aforementioned instant-coffee-like packets contained illicit substances such as MDMA, methamphetamine, ketamine, and nimetazepam.
According to police officers, criminals employ a tactic of blending and packaging multiple types of drugs disguised as food, beverages, and other products, using packaging materials, labels, colors, and powdery scents similar to commonly-used convenience coffees.

The end-users often mix this substance with water, treating it as a regular beverage or coffee.
Upon consuming these substances, the narcotics will directly manipulate the central nervous system, inducing hallucinations and potentially resulting in uncontrollable behaviors, coma, unconsciousness, and even death.
Therefore, the police advise residents to stay cautious when using unfamiliar or suspicious foods.
Additionally, parents should ensure their children do not try foods without clear origins.
