A video capturing elementary school students DJing and dancing to music in a schoolyard in Son Tra District, Da Nang City on Tuesday, this year’s official school opening day in Vietnam, has gained widespread popularity on the Internet.
The video was apparently filmed at Ngo Gia Tu Elementary School in Son Tra District during the latter part of the new school year opening ceremony.
It featured a female student exuding confidence as she took on the role of a DJ on the stage in front of a backdrop celebrating the 2023-24 school year opening ceremony, with numerous teachers and other students dancing to the lively music.
It was then uploaded on social media and went viral.
There have been divergent viewpoints regarding the video, with one faction believing that the performance is not appropriate for the age group and the ambiance of a school opening day.
“The society makes efforts to provide age-appropriate educational materials for their children, yet when school begins, they let the kids listen to DJs and EDM, then some people perceive this as progressive and open-minded,” said a netizen who declared themselves as Phieu Du.
“This can be considered as the child’s talent, but this isn’t the right setting for them to showcase it,” another Internet user commented.
“It’s incongruous with the age group and the setting,” a user named Dai Thien My said.
Meanwhile, many other netizens view the performance as primarily for entertainment purposes as it is quite innovative and makes sense for the festive segment within the school opening ceremony.
Some people compared it to children playing specific instruments to foster a cheerful and enthusiastic atmosphere for students at the start of the academic year.
“Common parents don’t get overly concerned when the performance was already supervised in advance,” said a netizen named Huu Phuoc.
“I like it this way. A school day should be about enjoyment, activity, and excitement, rather than just enduring monotonous speeches,” said a user named Than Thien.
On Tuesday afternoon, Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper made several attempts to reach out to the leaders of the elementary school in question, but they did not provide a response.
Vo Trung Minh, head of Son Tra District’s Education and Training Bureau, said that he was in the process of verifying the mentioned video, thus he was unable to discuss the issue with the press at that time.
