Unpleasant weather is set to bring more scattered showers and thunderstorms to various parts throughout Vietnam from Friday evening till next Tuesday, with excessive rainfall expected in some locations, according to the national weather center.

Several places in northern Vietnam could see moderate to heavy downpours with average rainfall of 20-40mm from Friday evening to Saturday, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorology Forecasting said.

The similar unfavorable weather conditions are forecast in the central, Central Highlands, and southern regions, the center said and added that rains will likely hit these areas mostly in the afternoon and evening.

Heavy rains could result in flooding in low-lying areas and flash floods, landslides in mountainous regions.

Tornadoes, lightning, and powerful wind gusts may happen during rainstorms.

Throughout this Saturday, the northern part of the East Vietnam Sea is expected to experience heavy rains and thunderstorms.

Rains, accompanied by tornadoes and wind gusts, could also hit the Gulf of Tonkin, the waters from central Binh Thuan Province to southern Ca Mau Province.

All fishing vessels operating at these areas are likely to be affected by tornadoes and strong wind gusts, the national weather center warned.
