A district in Ha Tinh Province, north-central Vietnam reported more than 4,300 students suffering from conjunctivitis in one week, bringing the total number of cases in the province to over 30,000, as confirmed by local health authorities.

An official of the education and training division of Ha Tinh’s Loc Ha District said on Tuesday that the prevalence of pinkeye disease is becoming increasingly complex among students attending kindergartens, elementary schools, and middle schools in the locality.

From September 13 to the present, the entire district documented more than 4,300 students affected by conjunctivitis.

In an effort to contain the widespread transmission of the disease within schools, the Loc Ha District education division requested that schools allow afflicted students to stay home.

Currently, approximately half of the total number of infected children have recuperated and are resuming their regular school attendance.

Local schools are required to diligently enforce preventative measures to curb the transmission of pinkeye and ensure that the disease does not proliferate within their educational institutions.

According to the Ha Tinh health authorities, there have been over 30,000 reported cases of conjunctivitis in the province.

The areas with the highest number of infections are Huong Khe, Ky Anh, and Loc Ha Districts.

Out of these cases, more than 12,000 individuals have successfully recovered, while those still affected are undergoing treatment as per medical guidance.

The health sector in Ha Tinh also advises the public to adopt preventative measures, including regular handwashing with soap and clean water, refraining from rubbing the eyes, nose, or mouth, and avoiding the sharing of items like eye drop bottles, towels, eyeglasses, and masks to prevent the spread of the disease.

Patients and those suspected of having pinkeye are urged to minimize contact with others and to seek prompt medical attention at healthcare facilities.

Self-treatment without guidance from medical professionals should be avoided to prevent potential severe complications.
