A project vying to become the tallest and largest hotel in Da Lat City, located in Vietnam’s Central Highlands province of Lam Dong, is facing potential demolition after the city People’s Committee recently imposed a fine of VND110 million (US$4,482) on the investor for illegally building an extra 4,500 square meters.

The Da Lat People’s Committee imposed the VND110-million penalty on Khai Vy JSC, based in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City, for its unauthorized construction at the Merperle Dalat hotel project on Friday.

Apart from the fine, the authorities has instructed Khai Vy JSC to halt building the project’s components that lacks a proper construction permit.

The committee has also asked the company to liaise with relevant agencies for the necessary documentation and procedures to secure a construction permit and adjust the project’s design in order to ensure that it aligns with regulations.

The construction may be dismantled and the investor must fix the consequences within 90 days if the proposed design adjustment is not approved.

The Merperle Dalat Hotel, situated on a land area spanning over 11,000 square meters at 1 Hung Vuong Street in Ward 10, Da Lat City, is a 10-story project aspiring to meet 5-star international standards upon completion.

It is designed to offer 402 rooms and a range of accompanying amenities, making it one of the largest and tallest hotels not only in Da Lat City but also in the entire Lam Dong Province.

Previously, the Da Lat authorities had documented that the hotel project had exceeded the permitted construction area at basement 2, basement 1, the first floor, and the roof deck by a total of 4,456 square meters.

These violations occurred after a June inspection by the Lam Dong Department of Construction.

In September, after the construction had exceeded the licensed area, the investor submitted a request to adjust the design to the Lam Dong People’s Committee and the unauthorized construction was exposed.
