Police in Vinh Long Province, located in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta region, announced on Saturday they had detained two robbery suspects who were found in possession of seven canisters of tear gas and a pair of scissors.
They were identified as Tran Van Sang, 28, and Tran Minh Luan, 24, both residing in the province’s Binh Minh Town.
Early on Friday morning, the duo took the canisters of tear gas and the scissors along with them while riding a motorcycle around local wet markets and industrial parks to search for prey to steal their belongings, according to a police report.
At 7:15 am the same day, the suspects traveled around Binh Minh Industrial Park and saw Duong Thi Tuyet N., 27, residing in Binh Minh, riding her motorbike toward the industrial park.
The suspects approached N. and snatched her mobile phone.
They did not flee the scene but continued to grab an iPhone Pro Max worth around VND14 million (US$569.74) from Pham Thi Ngoc C. when this 24-year-old woman was on her way to work.
C. accelerated her motorbike to chase them and teamed up with local inhabitants to capture the two.
After inspecting the two suspects, police discovered that they were carrying seven canisters of tear gas, a pair of scissors, three mobile phones, and a watch.
