The Healthcare Center in Chu Se District, Gia Lai Province admitted three siblings who were poisoned by toad meat and eggs on Thursday, with two of them passing away shortly after the admission and the other in critical condition.
On Thursday morning, 11-year-old S.N., who lived in Chu Se District’s La Pal Commune, made a dish out of toad meat to eat by herself.
At noon, her parents discovered N. and her two siblings, S.T., 6, and S.H., 4, lying unconscious, so they quickly rushed the children to the healthcare center in Gia Lai, located in Vietnam's Central Highlands region.
N. was hospitalized with symptoms of apnea and dilated pupils, while her blood pressure could not be measured.
After 30 minutes of emergency treatment, the patient’s health condition did not improve. She was pronounced dead due to toad meat poisoning.
H. exhibited symptoms of stupor, a rapid heartbeat, and severe poisoning from toad meat, whereas T. experienced vomiting, a rapid heartbeat, and was diagnosed with moderate toad meat poisoning.
The healthcare center transferred the two children to the Gia Lai Children’s Hospital for emergency treatment after giving them first aid.
However, H. died on the way. T. is still in critical condition.
Doctors advise everyone not to eat toad meat and quickly visit the nearest healthcare center for timely treatment if they discover they have been poisoned by the meat.
The animal contains venom in its skin and glands.
