Police in Hoa Binh Province, northern Vietnam on Sunday announced that they detained a 20-year-old motorcyclist the same day for drunk driving, accelerating when pulled over by traffic police officers and crashing into one officer, leaving the latter’s right leg broken.
The motorcyclist, identified as Ngo Van Ngoc Duy, a native of Thanh Hoa Province in north-central Vietnam, was accused of disturbing public order, the police said.
At around 11:10 am on Sunday, local traffic patrol officers discovered that Duy was recklessly driving Nguyen Huu Du, a 19-year-old resident of Thanh Hoa, on the motorbike on the 21A National Highway section passing through Hoa Binh’s Lac Thuy District.
The officers signaled Duy to pull him over, but he accelerated and slammed into an officer named Nguyen Viet Thang.
Consequently, both Thang and Du sustained fractures on their right legs, adding that the motorbike was slightly damaged.
The result of an alcohol breath test showed that Duy’s alcohol content reached 91mg/dl, equivalent to the highest level of alcohol concentration violation as stipulated in the Vietnamese government’s Decree 100/2019.
Police are working to handle the motorcyclist as per prevailing regulations.
