Low temperatures and light showers are forecast in northern Vietnam from Thursday night due to the arrival of a cold front in the region, the national weather agency said earlier the same day.

The cold spell will likely affect the northeastern region before spreading to northwestern and north-central localities.

In northern and north-central provinces such as Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Hoa Binh, and Thanh Hoa, temperatures will drop from Friday with lows averaging between 17 and 20 degrees Celsius, and possibly as low as 12 degrees Celsius in mountainous areas, according to the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.

The national weather agency forecast that the northeastern region may experience scattered light showers from Thursday night to Saturday this week, adding that the same weather pattern, accompanied by whirlwinds, hails, and gusts could hit north-central provinces between Friday and Saturday.

The center cautioned fishing boats operating in the north of the East Vietnam Sea against possible strong winds, high waves, and rough seas.
