-- On Wednesday morning, the seventh session of the Vietnamese National Assembly continued the process of electing the new state president for the 2021-26 term. Following this, the newly elected state president will be sworn in. Six days ago, during the ninth plenum, the 13th Party Central Committee unanimously nominated Minister of Public Security To Lam to be state president for the tenure.


-- National Assembly deputy Ha Phuoc Thang from Ho Chi Minh City suggested utilizing under-bridge spaces as parking facilities to address the shortage of parking sites in major cities during a discussion on amendments to the Road Law held on Tuesday.

-- Following the Chi Thanh tunnel landslide incident in Phu Yen Province, south-central Vietnam, which disrupted train operations, Vietnam Railways Corporation arranged the transfer of nearly 2,700 passengers from 12 trains between the La Hai and Tuy Hoa stations via car on Tuesday.

-- The People’s Committee of Thai Binh City in Thai Binh Province, northern Vietnam has decided to levy an administrative fine of VND21 million (US$825) on an eatery that served pâté containing maggots to its customers.

-- Downpours, gales, whirlwinds, and lightning have wreaked havoc on many localities across Vietnam from Sunday to Tuesday, resulting in four deaths, according to the Vietnam News Agency.


-- Vietnam’s joint-venture Indovina Bank is offering to sell a debt exceeding VND482 billion ($18.9 million) of Duong Malt Joint Stock Company, an entity within the Hoa Binh Group ecosystem led by soldier-turned-tycoon Nguyen Huu Duong. The collateral for this loan consists of real estate and stocks valued at over VND653 billion ($25.6 million) in total.


-- The stage for this year’s Da Nang International Fireworks Festival (DIFF 2024) is set to incorporate numerous new technologies for the first time, promising exhilarating art performances and fireworks competitions spanning from June 8 to July 13, the organizers said on Tuesday.

-- Renowned classical pianist Boris Giltburg held his first-ever concert in Vietnam, themed ‘Boris Giltburg - Piano Recital,’ in Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday evening as part of the ‘SOLO International Concert Series.’


-- Four Vietnamese athletes, namely Nguyen Thi Ngoc, Quach Thi Lan, Hoang Thi Minh Hanh, and Nguyen Thi Hang, won the gold medal in the women’s 4x400m relay team with a time of 3:30.82 at the 2024 Asian Relay Championship in Thailand on Tuesday.
