Several parts of central Vietnam are expected to experience intense rainfall greater than 100mm between Sunday night and Tuesday, according to the national weather agency.
Northeast winds in the northern part of the East Vietnam Sea have intensified because of the influence of a cold front moving eastward toward the sea, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said on Sunday.
From Sunday night to Monday night, moderate to heavy rain, along with scattered thunderstorms, could hit the central provinces from Thanh Hoa to Quang Ngai, while some places may endure rainfall of more than 150mm.
The weather agency warned of intense localized rainfall of over 100mm in six hours.
On Tuesday, the region from the north-central province Nghe An to the south-central province of Binh Dinh may see precipitation of 80mm and thunderstorms.
Heavy downpours will likely cause flooding in low-lying areas and urban regions, flash floods in small rivers and streams, and landslides in mountainous locations.
In northern Vietnam, another cold front could bring rain and cooler temperatures to this region from Tuesday, making nights and early mornings a bit colder.
The agency forecast that an intertropical convergence zone will form in the East Vietnam Sea between Monday and Tuesday, adding that the development of tropical cyclones is possible in the zone.
Moreover, a tropical depression or storm is forecasted to develop in the maritime area between Wednesday and Friday.
