Passengers can pay to use the priority lane service for faster and more convenient security screening at Da Nang International Airport in Da Nang City, central Vietnam, starting next year.
Da Nang International Airport announced on Saturday that starting January 1, 2025, it will begin charging a service fee for access to the priority lane at the security screening point in Terminal T1.
It will be the first airport in Vietnam to implement this service.
The service fee will apply to commercially important persons (CIP) of Vietnamese airlines, business class passengers (or equivalent) of international airlines, and loyalty program members of Vietnamese airlines who are eligible to use the priority lane for security screening.
Phan Kieu Hung, director of Da Nang International Airport, explained that the priority lane will be clearly marked with directional signs, and security personnel will be equipped with specialized machinery to ensure separate screening in line with regulations.
Previously, Da Nang International Airport informed domestic airlines of the new service fee, priced at VND100,000 (US$3.95) per passenger, excluding value-added tax.
“Children under two years old are exempt from the fee, while children aged 2-12 receive a 50-percent discount,” Hung told the news site VnExpress on November 22.
Hung clarified that the priority lane service is a non-aviation service and will not impact the capacity or quality of air transport services, nor will it alter the aviation security process.
Currently, all airports in Vietnam provide priority lanes for high-ranking officials, Heroic Vietnamese Mothers – a solemn title given to women whose husbands and children made the ultimate sacrifice for their country, people with meritorious services to the Vietnamese Revolution, as well as the elderly, children, people with disabilities, and pregnant women.
Statistics show that the demand for priority lanes at Da Nang International Airport is rising, with about 300 passengers using the service daily during peak periods.
Since the beginning of this year, Da Nang International Airport has served over 13.4 million passengers, including more than 6.2 million international travelers and over 7.2 million domestic passengers, generating revenue exceeding VND1.615 trillion ($63.72 million), according to VnExpress.
