Vietnam Airlines flights to, from Germany face major delays due to strike at German airports

The delays will cause a ripple effect on around 20 domestic and international flights operated by Vietnam Airlines later next week

Vietnam Airlines flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Germany and vice versa will experience significant delays over the next two days due to a 24-hour strike in Germany.

The Vietnamese flag carrier announced several changes to its flight schedules connecting Vietnam’s two largest cities with Frankfurt and Munich between 0:00 and 23:59 (Germany time) on Monday.

Specifically, flight VN37 from Hanoi to Frankfurt, originally scheduled for Sunday, will now depart at 23:50 on Monday (Vietnam time).

Flight VN36 from Frankfurt to Hanoi, scheduled for Monday, will depart at 11:55 on Tuesday (Germany time).

Flight VN31 from Ho Chi Minh City to Frankfurt, originally set for Sunday, will depart at 23:50 on Monday (Vietnam time).

Flight VN30 from Frankfurt to Ho Chi Minh City, scheduled for Monday, will depart at 11:05 on Tuesday (Germany time).

Flight VN35 from Hanoi to Munich on Sunday will depart at 23:50 on Monday (Vietnam time).

Flight VN34 from Munich to Hanoi, scheduled for Monday, will depart at 11:05 on Tuesday (Germany time).

As a result of these adjustments, around 20 domestic and international flights operated by Vietnam Airlines between Tuesday and Wednesday may experience delays, aircraft type changes from wide-body to narrow-body, or cancelations due to disruptions to aircraft scheduling and operations.

Vietnam Airlines expressed regret over the changes caused by the strike at Munich and Frankfurt airports and apologized for the inconvenience.

The airline assured that affected passengers would be supported in accordance with regulations.

The carrier also advised passengers to regularly check for updates on its website, customer service hotline, and other communication channels.

Passengers planning to travel through Munich or Frankfurt during this period are encouraged to monitor information frequently.

Reuters reported on Friday that more than half a million passengers will be affected and thousands of flights canceled due to a 24-hour strike at major German airports on Monday, after trade union Verdi called for employees in the public sector and ground handling to walk out.

Frankfurt Airport said there would very likely be no departures from Germany’s main hub. It advised passengers to refrain from coming to the airport and called on those transferring through the airport to check the flight status on their airline's website.

Other airports affected on Monday include Munich, Stuttgart, Cologne/Bonn, Duesseldorf, Dortmund, Hanover, Bremen, Hamburg, Berlin and Leipzig-Halle.

Earlier, because of a 48-hour strike at Munich International Airport from 0:00 on February 27 to 23:59 on February 28 (Germany time), Vietnam Airlines had to adjust the departure times of flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Munich and vice versa.

Additionally, disruptions to the airline’s fleet and general operations led to changes in at least 16 domestic flights from March 1 to March 2, including aircraft type changes, delays, and cancelations.
