The US$431-million T3 terminal of Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City will be officially put into service after the peak travel period of Reunification Day (April 30) and International Workers' Day (May 1), an airport representative said on Thursday.

The terminal is set to begin trial operations before an inauguration ceremony is held on April 30, as directed by the prime minister.

The new passenger terminal will officially start operations after the upcoming holidays, the representative affirmed.

It will initially serve domestic flights operated by Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet.

Meanwhile, other domestic carriers, including Vasco, Bamboo Airways, Vietravel Airlines, and Pacific Airlines, will continue using the existing T1 terminal.

Construction of the T3 terminal began in December 2022 with a total investment of approximately VND11 trillion ($431 million).

The project comprises a passenger terminal, a multi-story parking facility with commercial services, an elevated road system, and an aircraft parking area.

Designed to modernize airport operations, the T3 terminal will feature 89 traditional check-in counters, 20 self-service baggage drop stations, 42 check-in kiosks, 26 boarding gates, and 25 security screening points.

The terminal is expected to accommodate more than 20 million passengers annually and handle up to 7,000 passengers per hour during peak times.

Airport representatives recently dismissed social media rumors claiming the terminal would officially open on May 5, stating that no official inauguration date had been announced.
