Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has tasked the Ministry of Public Security with coordinating with other relevant ministries to consider a mechanism allowing foreigners to purchase temporary residence cards in Vietnam, in addition to the issuance of temporary residence cards and electronic visas.
The prime minister has signed a directive that outlines urgent tasks and solutions to help Vietnam adapt flexibly and effectively to global and regional economic shifts while maintaining growth targets, stabilizing macroeconomic conditions, controlling inflation, and ensuring major economic balances in 2025 and beyond.
According to the directive, the government leader has assigned the Ministry of Public Security to coordinate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Home Affairs to review Vietnam's visa policies for specific groups, such as tourists, experts, billionaires, scientists, celebrities, artists, and talented athletes.
These ministries will focus on addressing the concerns of international partners regarding work permits and visas. This includes proposing the extension of unilateral visa exemption policies.
The directive also calls for the proposal of solutions to improve and effectively implement these policies, with the aim of maximizing convenience, significantly reducing administrative procedures, and upgrading the e-visa system to make it increasingly accessible and simple.
Regarding the issuance of work permits for foreigners, the directive suggests revisions to facilitate the exemption of work permits or simplify the procedures for issuing work permits for foreigners working in priority sectors.
The three ministries will have to report the results to the prime minister this month.
