A chicken farm in Ha Tinh Province, north-central Vietnam experienced an electrical short circuit on Friday night, resulting in the death of nearly 8,000 chickens, a local official told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Saturday.
Bui Ngoc Du, chairman of the People's Committee of Ha Linh Commune, Huong Khe District, Ha Tinh, reported that the incident occurred at the farm of Tran Quoc The, a 39-year-old local resident.
The electrical short circuit caused the cooling system to malfunction, leading to heat stress and the mass death of the chickens.
Initial reports estimate that nearly 8,000 chickens died, resulting in a financial loss of some VND1 billion (US$39,200) for the farm owner.

Tran Quoc The and his wife took out a bank loan to open the chicken farm in 2023.
The farm was raising 12,000 chickens, which were in their third month of growth, with each bird weighing 2-2.5 kg.
In response to the tragedy, the government in Ha Linh Commune has called on various community organizations, such as the farmers’ association, the women’s association, and the youth union, to assist with slaughtering the chickens and cleaning the farm.
The chickens that could not be processed were gathered for disposal, said Du.
