A strengthening cold front recently moved southward toward northern Vietnam and began impacting the region on Monday night before extending to parts of the central region, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
Inland areas will experience northeasterly winds at 12-28 kilometers per hour, with coastal areas seeing gusts up to 39-49kph.
Northern Vietnam and the area from north-central Thanh Hoa Province to central Hue City may remain cold, with the northern mountainous region facing severely chilly conditions.
The lowest temperatures during this cold spell are forecast to range from 13 to 16 degrees Celsius in northern and north-central Vietnam, and below 10 degrees Celsius in high-altitude areas.
The central region from Quang Binh Province to Hue will see temperatures between 16 and 18 degrees Celsius.
Hanoi will possibly be chilly, with lows expected to be 14-16 degrees Celsius.
The national weather agency anticipated that the cold front will also bring scattered showers and thunderstorms to the central provinces from Ha Tinh to Khanh Hoa, with localized heavy rain in some areas.
Additionally, thunderstorms may bring lightning, hail, and strong gusty winds.
This cold spell is expected to last until Wednesday, before temperatures gradually rise from Thursday, with warmer daytime highs between 25 and 28 degrees Celsius.
The northeast monsoon is expected to strengthen in the Gulf of Tonkin from early Tuesday, bringing winds of 39-49 kph, gusts of 50-74 kph, rough seas, and waves reaching 2-3 meters high.
In the northern part of the East Vietnam Sea, including Vietnam’s Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago, northeast winds will intensify to 39-61 kph, with gusts of 62-88 kph and waves of 3-5 meters.
Rough seas are also forecast for the central East Vietnam Sea, the waters from Ninh Thuan to Ca Mau, and the western part of the southern East Vietnam Sea, including Vietnam’s Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago, with waves reaching 3-5 meters.
