In an unusual weather phenomenon, frost appeared on the peak of Ta Xua in Yen Bai Province, northern Vietnam in mid-March for the first time.
Despite wearing multiple layers of clothing, locals reported feeling the biting cold.
On Wednesday morning, temperatures in the center of Ban Cong Commune in Tram Tau District hovered around 17 degrees Celsius, but the peak of Ta Xua was covered in frost.
Dao Viet Nghiem, chairman of the commune, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that local trekking guides reported the temperature on the summit had dropped to a chilling three degrees Celsius, with frost covering tree branches and grass on the mountaintop.

While Ta Xua Mountain often experiences frost in December and January, this rare occurrence in March has surprised many.
Phang Ga, a local porter who has guided trekkers on Ta Xua for years, said this was the first time in his life that he had witnessed frost at this time of year.
The bitterly cold weather began on the evening of Tuesday, with temperatures on the peak gradually falling.
Frost developed around 1:00 am on Wednesday, with its thickness increasing by 6:00 am before it started to melt.

The northern region is currently being hit by a cold spell, with temperatures dropping significantly, according to the national weather center.
The lowest temperature was recorded in Sa Pa in Lao Cai Province and Pha Din in Dien Bien Province at five degrees Celsius.
The most recent frost at Ta Xua Mountain was recorded during a cold front on January 11.
