Fans get into brawl as Thailand rout Vietnam 6-0 to win U19 title

Football fans who filled the Laos National Stadium to watch the finale of the 2015 AFF U-19 Youth Championship on Friday got into a brawl much earlier before the match ended, when Thailand trounced Vietnam 6-0, prompting security forces to take an action.
The situation first escalated into a fight between the Thai supporters and security officers at the Vientiane-based stadium, when the former burn flares to celebrate their team’s second goal against Vietnam, only ten minutes into the second half.
The Thai took the lead in the 44th minute, in a match where their Vietnamese rivals hardly had a chance to score despite their full spirit to win.
While the Laotians wanted to stop the fans from overreacting in their celebrations, the Thais refused to follow the order and the two ended up into a brawl.
Some Vietnamese fans also reacted to what they deemed ‘ugly’ acts by their Thai counterparts by throwing bottles into them, which only turned the stadium into a mess.
Lao police eventually had to intervene and separated the Thai supporters from the rest of spectators to restore orders.
None of the fans were injured.
The stadium brawl apparently did not affect the Thai players, as they went on to score four other goals in the rest of the game in the 68th, 84th, 88th, and 90th minute, respectively.
Vietnam U19s won the title in 2007, and finished second in two editions in the row in 2013 and 2015. The championship is organized biannually by the ASEAN Football Federation, which promotes football in Southeast Asian.
Thailand outplayed Vietnam in all terms of strength, technique and tactic in yesterday’s finale, and the U-19 Youth Championship title only reaffirmed the Thai predominance in Southeast Asian football.
The Thailand’s national team are the title holders of the AFF Championship, after beating Malaysia 4-3 in December 2014.
The Thailand U23s also won the gold medal of the men’s football at the 29th Southeast Asian Games in Singapore in June this year.
The country’s U16s are also the Southeast Asian champions, and the Thai women’s squad also the region’s title holders.
