Vietnam drew 1-1 with Jordan in their friendly match early Tuesday (Vietnam time) at Khalid Bin Mohammed Stadium in the United Arab Emirates ahead of their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The match was held behind closed doors without the attendance of the press and spectators as per the request from the Jordanian side.

Even the two teams’ coaching staff were not allowed to record the game for tactical review.

According to the Vietnam Football Federation, Vietnam’s head coach Park Hang Seo used 26 out of a total of 29 Vietnamese players he brought to the UAE, with the remaining three benched due to injuries, as the number of substitutes allowed in the game was unlimited.

In the 11th minute, Jordan opened the scoreboard.

Conceding the early goal, Vietnam quickly switched to offense to find an equalizer.

In the 25th minute, Vietnam equalized as a Jordanian player scored an own goal.

The second half saw a fast pace, with both teams constantly creating dangerous attacks.

Jordan got a penalty in the 60th minute, but keeper Nguyen Van Toan saved it.

The score remained 1-1 until the end of the match.

Tuesday’s friendly match was the only warm-up game for Vietnam before playing their World Cup qualifiers against Indonesia on June 7, Malaysia four days later, and the UAE on June 15.

All of them have also played some friendly matches to prepare for the important upcoming games.

The Asian qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar are in their second round, played by 40 teams drawn into eight groups of five to play home and away round-robin matches from September 5, 2019.

Vietnam are topping group G with 11 points.

The team need at least seven points from the next three games to secure a place in the final qualifying round.
