First Vietnam Student Football Tournament kicks off in Ho Chi Minh City

The qualifying round of the first Vietnam Student Football Tournament - Café de Mang Den Cup commenced at Duc Thang University in Ho Chi Minh City on Saturday.

The Vietnam Student Football Tournament - Café de Mang Den Cup is co-organized by Thanh Nien (Young People) newspaper and the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF).

The tournament is officially included in the annual national competition system of the VFF and the Vietnam Student Sports Tournament (VUG).

Running from February 18 to March 3, the qualifying round consists of 42 teams divided into five regions.

The top 11 teams will join the home team from Ton Duc Thang University in the final round.

The qualifying round opening in Ho Chi Minh City saw the attendance of secretary of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Nguyen Minh Triet, head of the General Department of Physical Education and Sports Dang Ha Viet, and VFF president Tran Quoc Tuan.

About 1,500 students were in the spectators to cheer for their teams.

The total prize pool of the tournament is more than VND700 million (US$28,380). The champion will receive the gold medal and VND300 million ($12,600) in prize money.

The main sponsor of the tournament will also award VND100 million ($4,200) to the best cheerleading team.
