Vietnamese bodybuilder Pham Van Mach, 47, won a gold medal in the men’s 55kg category on Thursday at the 14th WBPF World Bodybuilding And Physique Sports Championships in South Korea.
This marks Mach’s sixth world gold medal.
The Vietnamese contingent, comprising more than 20 meticulously-trained athletes, including Mach, is taking part in the competition, which is underway in South Korea’s Gangwon Province from Thursday to Saturday, featuring over 400 athletes from 60 countries and territories.
The Vietnamese team arrived in the host country almost a week in advance to acclimate to the weather and familiarize themselves with the conditions.
Thanks to thorough preparation, the Vietnamese bodybuilding team enjoyed success on the tournament’s inaugural official competition day.

In addition to Mach’s gold medal, other Vietnamese bodybuilders excelled in various events.
Specifically, Tran Bao Quoc Vuong and Ho Huy Binh secured two more gold medals in men’s 65kg and 70kg, respectively.
Dinh Kim Loan and Nguyen Thi Kim Dung added another two gold medals in the women’s bodybuilding 55kg category and fitness 1m65 height, respectively, raising the Vietnamese delegation’s total gold medal count to five on the first day of competition.
Furthermore, Bui Dac Phi Vu, Truong Hoang Long, Bui Thi Thoa, Tran Hoang Duy Thuan, and Tran Thi Cam Tu clinched five silver medals in the men’s bodybuilding 55kg class, men’s bodybuilding 75kg youth, women’s bodybuilding over 55kg class, male fitness 1m70 height, and female fitness 1m65 height, respectively.
