Vietnamese billiards players Tran Quyet Chien and Bao Phuong Vinh emerged victorious as the champions of the 36th World Championship Three-Cushion National Teams in Germany on Monday morning (Vietnam time).
This marks Vietnam’s first-ever World Three-Cushion Championship title.
Chien and Vinh faced Spain’s Ruben Legazpi and Sergio Jimenez in the final match.
While Vinh secured a convincing victory against Jimenez with a score of 40-22, Chien faced a tougher challenge against Legazpi.
Despite a fierce battle, with Chien initially trailing but later closing the gap, Legazpi ultimately claimed a narrow victory of 40-38.
The tied result led to a decisive doubles match, where all four players compete on one table alternately until one team reaches 15 points.
The Vietnamese pair showed resilience, eventually clinching the championship with a 15-14 win.

In the semifinals, Chien and Vinh also encountered difficulty against the U.S. team.
While Chien won the first match against Raymon Groot, Vinh was defeated by Hugo Patino, necessitating a doubles match.
Despite a close call, the Vietnamese duo staged a remarkable comeback, triumphing 15-13 and securing their spot in the finale.
Earlier this month, Chien claimed the Three-Cushion Carom Billiards World Cup for the third time in Bogota, Colombia.
Last September, Vinh outplayed Chien in the final of the World Championship Three-Cushion 2023 in Ankara, Turkey to bring home the title for the first time.
The 36th World Championship Three-Cushion National Teams ran from Thursday to Monday (Vietnam time) in Germany, featuring 16 teams in four groups of four.
