A conductor of Vietnam's North-South train found a lost handbag containing VND60 million (US$2,472) in cash and returned it to the rightful owner on Sunday, right before the New Year.
Nguyen Hoang Diem, head of the crew operating train SE4, connecting the northern and southern regions of the country, stated that the train crew successfully returned a handbag, including its contents — cash, a smartphone, and personal documents — to its rightful owner.
A passenger had left the bag in his compartment before disembarking at the Dieu Tri Train Station in Binh Dinh Province, south-central Vietnam on Sunday morning, she said.
Conductor Le Thanh Hue found the bag and then alerted Diem, who was able to help identify the owner as N.C.H.C..
Nguyen Van Tuan, director of a Saigon Railway JSC branch responsible for managing the train crew, highlighted that train conductors frequently come across lost bags on train cars and are generally successful in returning them to their owners. Tuan underscored that honesty is a fundamental requirement within the railway sector.
