Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper is calling on readers to engage in the ‘Green Lighting Transition Toward Net-Zero Emissions’ contest, which is aimed at collecting suggestions and initiatives for building a green and eco-friendly urban area using effective lighting solutions.
The contest is organized by Tuoi Tre in collaboration with Signity Vietnam, the Consulate General of the Netherlands in Ho Chi Minh City, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Natural Resources and Environment, and the Dutch Business Association Vietnam (DBAV).
Both local and international readers, including students, public workers, experts, engineers, entrepreneurs, project managers, and diplomats, can participate in the competition.
Participants can submit essays, research projects, theses, dissertations, designs, plans, and ideas to the organizers.
Outstanding ideas and initiatives will be sent to the municipal People’s Committee and relevant agencies for discussions on transforming Ho Chi Minh City into a green city in the future.
Requirements
* Participating readers send their entries detailing initiatives and suggestions to build a green and eco-friendly space and urban area using lighting solutions to reduce emissions via some ideas, including:
- Solutions to use lights with suitable brightness and color along routes, in public places, and at tourist sites in Ho Chi Minh City
- Plans to use the appropriate energy-saving light that helps reduce emissions and to apply smart lighting technology at home
- The use of a model of switching to LED lamps to reduce emissions and save energy for both indoor and outdoor spaces
- The introduction of models using harmonious light, and impressive designs for light at symbolic structures at home and abroad
* Designs for lighting systems at offices, apartments, and houses must meet standards and help reduce emissions.
* Participants can design a lighting system for public structures and famous tourist sites in Ho Chi Minh City such as Bach Dang Wharf, the iconic Ho Con Rua (Turtle Lake), and Ba Son Bridge, with a view to beautifying the cityscape, while factoring in eco-friendly and energy-saving lighting solutions.
* Readers can learn about European-standard lighting products and solutions provided by Signify at the website https://www.signify.com/vi-vn/our-offers.
Notes
* Entries can be sent to the contest by either an individual or an organization.
* Entries must be presented in Vietnamese or English.
* As for the design category, readers can submit Microsoft PowerPoint files, images, video clips which can last for a maximum of five minutes, or graphics.
* As for the idea category, an essay must be fewer than 1,000 words, while PowerPoint files must have illustration images.
* These entries must have yet to be publicized, while authors must be responsible for copyright.
* Outstanding entries can be covered in Tuoi Tre’s publications.
* Tuoi Tre and relevant units are allowed to use these entries, which are run in Tuoi Tre’s publications. These units will discuss the ideas with their authors before they are put into practice.

An awards ceremony will be held in November 2024.
Prizes
* Prizes for designs:
- The first-prize winner of a lighting design for houses and offices will receive VND30 million (US$1,205), a set of Philips Hue/WiZ products and garden lights valued at VND20 million ($804), and gifts from the organizers.
- The first prize for a lighting design for public places and structures in Ho Chi Minh City includes VND30 million, a set of Philips Hue/WiZ products and garden lights valued at VND20 million, and gifts from the organizers.
- Three consolation prizes are valued at VND5 million ($200) each.
* Prizes for ideas include one first prize valued at VND10 million ($400), one second prize worth VND7 million ($281), one third prize valued at VND5 million and five consolation prizes valued at VND3 million ($120) each.
* The contest will also offer 10 prizes voted by readers with each of them valued at VND1 million ($40).
The competition’s jury includes a representative from Ho Chi Minh City departments, a representative from Tuoi Tre, a representative from the DBAV or the Consulate General of the Netherlands in Ho Chi Minh City, a leader of Signify Vietnam, and an expert in lighting.
