Hai Phong, a major port city in northern Vietnam, is set to open a new train service connecting with Hanoi in May, which features 20 modern carriages, two of which are luxurious sections.

Duong Duc Hung, deputy director of the municipal Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that the new luxury train service would begin before May 13 to mark the 70th anniversary of Hai Phong’s liberation.

The highlight of the service is the two VIP carriages, which are outfitted with 16 armchairs and five sofas that can seat up to 20 people.

These VIP sections feature luxurious interiors, including natural wood flooring, free Wi-Fi, a bar counter, and live musical performances.

The remaining carriages are equipped with 56 swivel seats, allowing passengers to rotate them 180 degrees for optimal scenic views along the journey.

The floors are covered in plastic carpet, ensuring comfort throughout the trip.

On the exterior, the train carriages are painted in a striking combination of red and green, adorned with a ‘flamboyant flower’ logo, a symbol of Hai Phong.

Hung underlined that the launch of the new train service was aimed at elevating the Hanoi-Hai Phong railway route.

The city expects to turn the service into the most dynamic and busiest route in the country.

The new service will offer travelers the opportunity to experience cultural, artistic, and culinary delights on board, while connecting them to key tourist destinations along the route.

For those seeking a food tour experience, passengers can savor specialties on the train, and enjoy continued gastronomic exploration upon arriving at Hai Phong Station.

Moreover, tourists traveling with a special train ticket will receive discounts on food, shopping, and relaxation services during the Hai Phong food tour.

The interior is designed in an Indochine style, combining modern lines with traditional Asian colors.

The municipal department plans to further develop this railway-based tourism product, incorporating food tours as an integral part of the journey.

The Hai Phong Food Festival will be held at Hai Phong Station from May 9 to 14, with 40 food stalls showcasing the best local delicacies.

This event is expected to attract visitors to the city during the summer season.

Statistics indicated that the number of passengers on the Hanoi-Hai Phong train route reached over 1.5 million in 2024.
