Like a signal to mark the end of the rainy season, Vietnam’s Central Highlands turns yellow at the end of October when 'hoa da quy' (wild sunflowers) appear throughout its forests, valleys and roads, making the city a top destination for visitors looking to admire the fresh bloom and crisp air.

Situated at about 1,500 meters above sea level, Da Lat exudes its own idyllic vibe and poetic charm.

Its location in the highlands shields it from super heat and city chaos.

As December nears, Da Lat becomes more crowded as large numbers of tourists retreat to the city to relax and enjoy the fresh air and natural beauty of the wild yellow sunflowers found rising along roads and hills in search of sunlight.

During the blossom, the dark yellow flowers cover small roads, houses, and valleys.

The best time for visitors to enjoy the beauty of Da Lat’s wild sunflowers is from the end of October to November.

During this time, the city is shrouded in yellow, creating a unique sense of autumn not often felt in Vietnam.

When the sun is shining, the golden color of flowers blends with the blue sky and dispels cold air from the hilly city.

In any corner, tourists can easily find bushes of wild sunflowers, considered unique to this windy plateau.

Unlike colorful and exquisite flowers grown in a garden or flower festivals, the rustic beauty of these unique flowers makes them nearly synonymous with Da Lat.

Though the blossoms last for just a single month, their magic is definitely worth the wait.
