Vietnam has been named the leading tourism destination in Asia again in terms of heritage, culture, and cuisine at the 2020 World Travel Awards (WTA).
This is the second year in a row that the Southeast Asia country has enjoyed triumph in these three categories.
WTA, a global-scale annual event, has announced winners chosen from nominees across Asia via online voting for this year’s edition.
Cultural tourism is deemed one of the four cutting edges of the domestic tourism industry, according to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.
Over the past years, cultural tourism has been among the biggest selling points drawing foreign and domestic visitors to the country.
Vietnam is also named Asia’s Best Golf Destination 2020 by the WTA, marking the country’s fourth consecutive victory in the category.
On top of country-level victories, multiple Vietnamese tourism institutions, including airlines, tourism agencies, hotels, resorts, and tourism spots in Phu Quoc Island, Da Nang City, Ha Long City, and Sa Pa Town were also honored by the WTA.
Vietnam’s capital city of Hanoi was nominated in the World’s Leading City Destination 2020 category, while central Hoi An Ancient Town was shortlisted as one of Asia’s Leading Cultural City Destinations 2020.
The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism was also up for consideration for Asia's Leading Tourist Board.
After announcing the result from the Asia region, the WTA will conduct a global-scale voting round to pinpoint the world’s best tourism destination in 2020, which will be announced on November 27.
