Head to Phu Quoc for VN expats Champions League

Head to Phu Quoc for VN expats Champions League

Thursday, March 21, 2013, 15:01 GMT+7

Mango Bay Phu Quoc, "a secluded eco-friendly island escape with sandy coves, delicious food and a wonderful laid-back vibe" as described by top travel site I-Escape, is calling all football stars for  its 6th football tournament for the expat community in Vietnam, on Saturday, 4th May 2013.

Also known as Vietnam expat’s 'Champions League', it is an annual tournament hosted by Mango Bay and taking place at Cua Can Stadium on the secluded Phu Quoc island. This year, 8 to 12 expat teams will compete for the coveted football title.

The registration fee per team is $35 per player which includes tournament inscription fee and a BBQ buffet at Mango Bay Beach Bar, once mentioned as "The crème de la crème of Mango Bay’s dining experience, using local ingredients either from the market or from Mango Bay’s own gardens. The fish is caught fresh from the sea, giving you the most delicious dishes imaginable; and the beef, pork and chicken are from local farmers who still use century-old traditional farming methods,” by Mr. Le Bihan Ronan, General Manager of Mango Bay Phu Quoc, which you may have learned from a previous article about this well-loved resort.

But the highlight of the day must be the tournament itself, as it is an opportunity to “strut your stuff” and to socialize with each other, at a tackle, a penalty kick or a celebratory drink, depending on whether the socializing takes place before, during or after the game. As per previous years, the tournament will take place for a whole day, with group matches in the morning to identify "winner group" and "loser group" ready for final afternoon matches. After the games, make sure you pamper yourselves in by booking a well-deserved full body massage to relax your tired muscles at the serene spa overlooking the beach.

The real UEFA Champions League  final will take place at Wembley Stadium in the UK on 25 May this year, but you will find out which team wins the ‘better’ Mango Bay’s 7-a-side Champions League cup a good three weeks before that. And who knows you can be one of the winning gold medalist ?

To celebrate this event, Mango Bay is offering a special throughout summer including July and August, when guests will benefit from Mango Bay's three-for-two deal: “Staying three nights, pay for two nights”, making your weekend longer without any extra cost.

For the detailed schedule or more information on this tournament, email Ronan directly at gm@mangobayphuquoc.com.

Mango Bay, www.mangobayphuquoc.com, has 40 rooms and bungalows constructed using natural materials from the island. Its two restaurants and bars sit on rocks, only a few meters from the waves where guests can indulge in a chilled beer and fresh, succulent seafood. This eco resort benefits from two secluded beaches to swim, sunbathe or have a snooze,  stretching green space with pepper plantation, island vegetable patch, butterfly farm, orchid garden and the resort’s own forest reserve. Also for guests’ enjoyment are a boat for up to 15 persons and a serene spa overlooking the beach.
