Police bust cat theft ring in north-central Vietnam

The illegal racket used a truck to store the stolen felines and was armed with knives and machetes

Police in north-central Vietnam have broken up an organized cat theft ring whose members were equipped with a truck and weapons.

Officers in Can Loc District, Ha Tinh Province confirmed on Wednesday they had busted the illegal racket led by 48-year-old To Thi Thuy.

Thuy and seven other suspects had been stealing cats from houses across Can Loc, Loc Ha, and Thach Ha Districts.

Officers also confiscated multiple stolen cats, a homemade sword, one truck, three motorbikes, six mobile phones, and many cat theft tools.

Preliminary information showed that the ring stole up to 36 cats a day.

At the police station, Thuy said her subordinates scouted local streets on motorbikes and abducted the cats with specialized nets.

Thuy also bought a mini truck to store the stolen felines and avoid getting caught by competent authorities.

The ring members were armed with knives and machetes to threaten pet owners and local residents if they tried to stop them.

Further investigation is ongoing.
