Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung will lead a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to attend the 22nd ASEAN Summit scheduled on April 24-25 in Brunei, the Foreign Ministry said. This is the first summit to be held in the year during which Brunei is the rotary chairman of ASEAN, the ministry said. At the summit, Vietnam will urge the bloc to further discuss measures necessary to seek outside support for the ASEAN Connectivity Program, said Nguyen Tien Minh, head of the ministry’s ASEAN Department. Besides cooperation in traditional security fields, Vietnam will suggest ASEAN to boost cooperation in non-traditional security areas, such as disaster prevention and control, rescue and salvage at sea, water source security, and transnational crimes. With regard to the East Sea issue, Minh said that the involved countries will discuss measures to maintain peace, stability and cooperation in the area. Earlier on April 10-11, Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh will also lead another Vietnamese delegation to attend the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting Retreat and related conferences in Brunei. The Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or ASEAN, comprises ten countries: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
