-- Vietnam is determined to foster sustainable development as its regular and long-term orientation and has included the Sustainable Development Goals in national strategies and programs that center on people, said President Truong Tan Sang during his meeting with United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in the U.S. on Thursday (local time).

-- Newspapers having great effects on the public, like Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper, will be put under management of agencies with higher authority levels, as part of the project to re-arrange the country’s press agency system, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Bac Son said at conference in Hanoi on Friday, adding that the ministry will work with Ho Chi Minh City authorities on October 1 on this issue.    

-- Ha Thuy Linh, the 43-year-old Vietnamese tea businesswoman who was found dead for an unknown cause in China on Tuesday might have been poisoned, a Vietnamese diplomatic agency in China said on Friday. The woman might have been robbed before being killed, according to Chinese police.

-- The Vietnam Coconut Association has submitted to the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee a proposal that coconuts be planted alongside new roads and canals in the city, as the trees are able to confront with heavy rains or storms.   

-- A court in the southern province of Dong Nai on Friday sentenced 29-year-old Bui Thanh Hoai to death for robbing, raping and killing a local woman on February 18, 2015. His accomplices, 38-year-old Huynh Tan Khanh, got a life sentence in the case.      

Business

-- Police from the Ministry of Public Security on Friday arrested four people for allegedly running an illegal online gold trading floor, launched by Ho Chi Minh City-based IMMS JSC, which had conducted deals worth hundreds of billions dong (VND1 billion equal to US$45,170) through about 1,500 accounts.

-- The building of a new terminal at the Da Nang International Airport in the central city of Da Nang is expected to be completed in March 2017, three months ahead of schedule, so that it can serve delegates of the 2017 Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum that is lasted for October 2017, according to the developer, Da Nang International Terminal Investment and Development JSC.

-- Fifteen ancient houses listed as cultural relics in Hoi An City in the central province of Quang Nam may collapse at any time due to their serious deterioration, so they must be restored as soon as possible, the municipal Center for Conservation of Cultural Relics said, adding that it is calling for funding from the state budget and the relics’ managers for the restoration.
