Tuoitrenews recommends some entertainment events you might want to take a look at for you days off.

In Hanoi, on Friday night, L’Espace will screen the French movie titled ““Mariées mais pas Trop” (The very merry widows) directed by Catherine Corsini. The film will be showcased in French with Vietnamese subtitles. Ticket costs VND20,000 (US$1) for the general public with a 50% discount for students.

In addition, on the next day, the Centre for Assistance and Development of Movie Talents will show the 2012 Spanish black-and-white silent fantasy drama film written and directed by Pablo Berger. The film won the Special Jury Prize at the 2012 San Sebastián International Film Festival.

This weekend, Hanoi will also see the performance of London MC/DJ Spikey Tee at 73a Mai Hac De Street on July 12.

One of the highlights of this weekend’s activities in the capital city is the Free Traditional Music Concert to be held on Saturday at 34 Hoang Cau Street. The show will feature Vietnamese traditional instrumental music and ca tru to be performed by local well-known singers. The event, which will be remain a weekly one, will be a nice place for people who want to get to know local traditional music.

With more music to come, well-known Japanese jazz band “Unit Asia” will join local singer Tung Duong to perform for free in Hanoi in an event organized to celebrate the 40th year of the establishment of Vietnam – Japan diplomatic relations. The shows will take place at 7:30 on July 12 at Hanoi’s Tuoi Tre Theater, 11 Ngo Thi Nham Street in Hai Ba Trung District.

Two days later, on July 14, it will move to Ho Chi Minh City’s Ben Thanh Theater at 6 Mac Dinh Chi Street in District 1.

In the southern city, this weekend’s entertainment activities will be full of fine art exhibitions, offering fans of arts numerous places to go.

Tu Do Gallery invites you to its exhibition titled “Summer Paintings” featuring 26 works on canvas by Hanoi artist Bui Quang Anh and HCMC painter Trinh Thanh Tung. The event will run at the gallery at 53 Ho Tung Mau Street in District 1 until July 30.

The “Winter Garden: The Exploration of the Micropop Imagination in Contemporary Japanese Art” held by the Consulate-General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City, in cooperation with the Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam is still running at the city’s Labor Culture Palace at 55B Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street in District 1 until July 21, from 9am to 7pm every day.

Also, new works by 15 young Vietnamese emerging artists will be displayed during this month at Craig Thomas Gallery’s on the occasion of its 4th anniversary. The venue is located at 27i Tran Nhat Duat Street in District 1.

In the central city of Hue, South Korean visual artist Jea Young Choi is holding an exhibition to showcase his works. The event titled “Paradox of the Gap” will take place at 15 Le Loi Street from July 12 to 22.

Then, numerous Hollywood blockbusters including “Humming Bird,” “Blind Detective,” “White House Down” and “The Lone Ranger” promise to bring audiences nationwide a relaxing weekend.
