Nha Trang launches citywide security camera system to boost tourist safety

Nha Trang launches citywide security camera system to boost tourist safety

Saturday, July 09, 2016, 10:29 GMT+7

A new security camera system has been installed at 12 ‘critical locations’ across the beach city of Nha Trang, one of the renowned tourist destinations in south-central Vietnam, police said Friday.

The surveillance camera installation is part of an initiative to “ensure social security and safety for tourism activities in Nha Trang,” according to Colonel Nguyen Van Ngan, head of the city’s police department.

Data collected from the security cameras are transmitted to the Information Center of the municipal police headquarters, allowing officers to respond promptly to incidents and traffic problems in the city, Ngan said.

The Information Center is in charge of various tasks including monitoring, extracting, and processing information from the cameras.

Officers at the center are also responsible for providing tactical strategies, monitoring and processing information from the Facebook page of the province’s criminal police unit, which is created to receive complaints from local residents.

“The second phase of the project will start in 2018, with 22 more cameras set for installation and connecting with the existing system of the Information Center,” Ngan added.
