A peaceful, stable, and cooperative environment is essential for the sustainable development of Asia in the future, a Vietnamese representative said at the 2014 Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Annual Conference which opened in Hainan, China on Thursday. Speaking at the four-day event, which gathered about 1,500 delegates, including leaders from more than 10 countries and renowned scholars, Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam emphasized that every nation, big or small, rich or poor, needs peace and stability for its development. Therefore, any dispute and conflict should be resolved by peaceful measures based on international law and with sincerity and trust, Dam told the conference, which is themed “Asia’s New Future: Identifying New Growth Drivers.” In order to ensure sustainable growth for Asia and the world in general, every nation should act in the spirit of cooperation and mutual respect and trust, and share responsibilities when it comes to common issues, the official said. Vietnam is always ready to work together with other nations and partners in such a spirit to meet its goals, Deputy PM Dam said. He also stressed that Asia is implementing a mission to grow not only for its own benefit but also for its increasingly important part in resolving common issues of human beings. Asian economies, Dam said, are looking towards sustainable growth in accordance with the common world trend. He also suggested that connectivity among economies and regions should be increased through cooperation frameworks like the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and other free trade treaties. Besides the above matters, the agenda of the conference also includes political and security issues, internet security, and China-U.S. relations.
