A Vietnamese film about the psychology and feeling of a single mother won two highest awards at a film festival held in France last week.

The Vietnamese flick “Tam Hon Me” (Mother’s Soul) was presented with the awards for the best film voted by both the French jury and audiences at the closing ceremony of the Vietnamese film festival held in Saint-Malo on July 6.

“Tam Hon Me,” which tells the story of a single mother who lives with her daughter in a shabby house along the Hong (Red) River in Hanoi, impressed viewers with its beautiful shots and meaningful content that successfully describes the woman’s psychology.

The 95-minute film, starring Vietnamese actress Hong Anh as the single mother and actor Truong Minh Quoc Thai as her lover, finished its production in 2011 and was officially screened in Vietnam in 2012.

The film directed by Vietnamese director Pham Nhue Giang also brought Truong Minh Quoc Thai the best actor award.

Vietnamese actresses Hong Anh and Van Trang won the best actress award thanks to their roles in the films “Trang Noi Day Gieng” (The Moon at the Bottom of the Well) directed by Nguyen Vinh Son and Victor Vu’s “Bi Mat Tham Do” (Scandal), respectively.

Hong Anh told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that she was really happy as this was the second time her role in “Trang Noi Day Gieng” had brought her the award for the best actress after the Dubai International Film Festival in 2008.

The 2014 Vietnamese film festival is one of the activities organized within the framework of the Vietnamese year in France.

The six-day event, which began on July 1, introduced to French audiences a selection of 15 films, including features, documentaries, and animations.
