The Swedish Film Festival is scheduled to take place from Friday until Sunday in Hanoi with six successful and well-known films to be screened, the Embassy of Sweden has announced on its website.
All the films, whose content targets different types of audiences including both teenagers and adults, will be shown at Hanoi Cinematheque at 22A Hai Ba Trung Street, Hoan Kiem District.
“Cinema lovers from Hanoi will be offered a unique chance to undertake on a cinematic journey through a fantastic line-up of Swedish films which have been appreciated for years by the Vietnamese audience,” the embassy quoted Ambassador Camilla Mellander as saying on its website.
People coming to the screenings will also have a chance to try traditional Swedish cinnamon rolls, also called “Kanelbullar,” or delicately spiced sweet bread marrying perfectly with a cup of coffee or tea.
The six films to be showcased at the fest are “Palme,” “Show Me Love,” “The Black Pimpernel,” “Easy Money,” “Tzvetanka,” and “Searching for Sugar Man.”
“Palme” is a story about late Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme who was a strong supporter of Vietnam during the American War, the embassy said, adding that in 1986 he got assassinated on his way home from the cinema in Stockholm.
The film is slated to be screened at 7:00 pm tonight, October 3. This screening is by invitation only, the Swedish embassy noted.
“Show Me Love” tells the story of two girls and how they struggle with teenage life and their love for each other.
“The Black Pimpernel” talks about the Swedish Ambassador to Chile who opposed the norm and risked his career in order to save lives during Augusto Pinochet’s military coup in 1973.
“Easy Money” is a thriller about organized crime in Stockholm while “Tzvetanka” is a poetic, playful and touching documentary on the life of a woman and the history of a nation.
“Searching For Sugar Man” is an Oscar-winning documentary about the music phenomenon Rodriguez who suddenly disappeared, leaving people with many unanswered questions.
The Swedish Film Festival is being organized within the framework of activities to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the relation between Vietnam and Sweden.
Sweden became the first Western country to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam in 1969, the embassy says on its Facebook page.
