The Southeast Asian country was the special administrative region’s 12th largest trading partner in 2014, the HKTDC said in a press release, adding bilateral trade reached $14 billion, up 11.7 percent from 2013.

The council is the international marketing arm for Hong Kong-based traders, manufacturers, and service providers.

Hong Kong’s total exports to Vietnam amounted to $8.6 billion last year, up 14 percent year on year.

Major export categories included telecommunications equipment and parts, meat products, fruit and nuts, knitted or crocheted fabrics, semi-conductors, and electronic valves and tubes.

Vietnamese shipments to the special administrative region were worth $5.4 billion in 2014, up 8.2 percent.

“We are most delighted to further boost trade between Hong Kong and Vietnam, as well as to strengthen our bilateral relations. With our concerted efforts, I am sure more trade opportunities will emerge,” said Benjamin Chau, deputy executive director of the HKTDC.

Chau encouraged Vietnamese firms to participate in fairs organized by the council as exhibitors, which is a great chance for them to introduce their products to other countries.

In 2014, over 33,600 exhibitors from 84 countries and regions and more than 700,000 buyers from almost 200 countries visited HKTDC trade fairs.
