About 60,000 travelers, including foreigners, arrived in the southern Vietnamese coastal city of Vung Tau during the first two days of 2015 to bathe in the sea and other recreational activities, according to the Management Board of Vung Tau City Tourist Areas. Compared to the same period last year, the number of travelers is about 15 percent higher, the board said. Local hotels had enough rooms for travelers to stay and the room prices increased slightly over January 1 and 2, Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper correspondents reported from the city. Competent agencies in Vung Tau strengthened their forces on duty during the two days to ensure safety for both local and foreign visitors. The Management Board of Vung Tau City Tourist Areas assigned rescuers to work around the clock at beaches to be ready for rescue activities when necessary. By late Friday evening, the board had received no complaints from travelers about overcharging or other issues during their stay in the city. Senior Lieutenant Colonel Le Van Ninh, head of the Road Traffic Police Department of Vung Tau City, said local police have increased forces and tightened control activities to ensure order and security in the city. Police have also strengthened patrols at night and early in the morning to prevent illegal motorbike races as well as other illegal acts, Ninh said.
In a relevant development, nearly 1,000 tourists including 400 foreigners visited Con Dao Islands of the southern Vietnamese province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau, another attractive destination in the country, during the first two days of 2015.
Vung Tau City is the former capital of Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province.
