All eyes are now on the second leg of the 2014 AFF Suzuki Cup semifinal between Vietnam and Malaysia at My Dinh Stadium in Hanoi on Thursday after the Vietnamese beat the hosts 2-1 in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday, as Vietnamese fans have different views on whether to take revenge on their Malaysian counterparts following their unruly behavior last night.

Speculations are growing on how Vietnamese fans will treat the guest supporters after violence erupted on the Shah Alam Stadium stands in the wake of the first leg, during which many Vietnamese were assaulted and injured by the home fans.

Malaysian supporters hurled glass bottles at the visiting fans and used their fists during the bloody stampede on the stands after the hosts failed to convert all of the favors they received from the unjust Chinese referee into a home victory.

Blood was seen on the face and T-shirt of a Vietnamese fan yesterday in the shameful attack.

"These irresponsible people don't think what would happen to our fans when we play in Hanoi, Vietnam, for the second leg," Malaysian Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin was quoted by The Malaysian Insider as saying.

The minister also apologized to Vietnam “for the actions of these small number [sic] of irresponsible thugs.”

He has reasons to worry about the return game at My Dinh.

“Wait until we meet you again in Hanoi,” many Vietnamese football aficionados wrote on social networks and newswires after witnessing their beloved footballers targeted by the ugly Malaysian players and the Vietnamese fans hurt by their local counterparts on the stands.

Some wrote on local football forums that there will be a “warm welcome” for the Malaysians this Thursday, after strongly criticizing the prejudiced referee Ma Ning for his irrational decision to award the hosts a penalty in the 13^th minute and his refusal to use his cards against the Malaysian players.

He only reluctantly booked a yellow card against Malaysian captain Rahim even though he repeatedly beat Vietnam's Tien Thanh in the 66th minute.

Vietnamese netizens even bombarded comments on the match recap post on the Malaysian version of Goal.com.

Most of the comments were to condemn the ugly supporters and the biased referee, as well as the late response of police and the silence of the Malaysian football governing body following the bloody attack.

“Shame on Malaysian fans for beating Vietnamese fans,” a reader named Viet Ong wrote.

Although there are extreme comments like “Malaysia, will kill you in MyDinh Stadium, let see [sic],” many Vietnamese commenters were calling their compatriots to keep calm and not to ‘take revenge.’

“Calm down. We are friends! We are peace. Let's the world know that we are Vietnam. Make peace in My Dinh [sic],” a reader commented.

“What do Malaysian fans think when they beat Vietnamese fans including many women during and after the match? We will show you how gentle and well educated Vietnamese fans in the match in Vietnam [sic],” another said, suggesting that Vietnam will use kindness to play against ugliness.

A reader named Hoang Thi Nhat Le told Zing News that Vietnamese fans should not pay back violence to the Malaysian visitors.

“We should show the Malaysians and the world our sports spirit,” she was quoted by the newswire as saying.

“Don’t let your anger spoil the national image.”

Zing News also cited another football fan, named Hao Nguyen, as saying that Vietnamese fans should keep calm irrespective of the result of the second leg game.

“Let’s prove to Malaysia that our concept of sports is different from theirs,” he said.

“Let them cry over a complete failure against us.”
