-- Logistics preparations for the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week and related meetings in the central city of Da Nang this November have been basically completed, the municipal Department of Foreign Affairs has said.

-- The Chinese Consulate General in the central Vietnamese city of Da Nang was inaugurated on Friday.

-- The Vietnamese Party and state will increase inspections to detect and strictly deal with corruption cases, State President Tran Dai Quang said as he met with voters in several districts of Ho Chi Minh City on Friday.

-- Death toll from destructive floods that battered northern and central Vietnam this week has risen to 59, while 36 people remained unaccounted for as of 5:00 pm on Friday, according to the national disaster prevention agency.

-- Dinh Huu Du, a correspondent of the Vietnam News Agency who went missing after being washed away by floodwater when reporting from a flood-hit area in the northern province of Yen Bai on Wednesday, was on Friday found dead 100km away from his last seen location.

-- Typhoon Khanun, which originally formed east of the Philippines on Wednesday, is forecast to be just 460 kilometers east of Vietnam’s Hoang Sa (Paracel) Archipelago by 4:00 pm today, October 14, continuing to bring torrential rains and pose an imminent risk of floods and landslides to central and north-central Vietnam.

-- Vietnam's government will continue to protect the business community and their legitimate rights and interests and help enhance domestic firms’ competitiveness in international integration, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc pledged as he met major enterprises on the occasion of the Vietnam Entrepreneurs’ Day in Hanoi on Friday.

-- The maiden Vietnam Coffee Day is slated to take place in the Central Highlands city of Da Lat from December 9 to 11, local authorities and the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association announced on Friday.

-- The World Bank will cover $92 million in a $115 million project to develop a wastewater drainage and treatment system in Di An town of the southern province of Binh Duong, with its water resources management expert Abedalrazq Khalil holding a working session with local authorities on Friday.
