The victim, T.T.N.N., a native of southernmost Ca Mau Province, was temporarily residing in Tan Hiep Ward, Tan Uyen City.
At the time of the incident, N. was riding pillion on a motorbike driven by a teen boy of the same age.
As they were passing along N2 Road in the Nam Tan Uyen Industrial Park, located in Tan Uyen, a tree uprooted by strong winds and collapsed onto their vehicle, striking N.
She was hospitalized with a serious head injury and later transferred to Binh Duong General Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries shortly after.
Officials have offered condolences and support to the victim’s family.
Binh Duong experienced scattered thunderstorms at the time of the accident, authorities said.
In Phu Giao District, a brief hailstorm lasting 5-10 minutes also hit Vinh Hoa Commune. Estimated damage from the storm reached about VND500 million (US$19,400), including several damaged homes and 1.5 hectares of rubber and fruit trees.
