Ho Chi Minh City’s police recently discovered over 11.7 metric tons of vegetables of unclear origin stored at two warehouses belonging to a company in District 8.
On Monday, the city’s environmental crime prevention police division was working to bring a charge of trading smuggled food against T.N. Fruits and Vegetables Production & Processing Co. Ltd., which is located at the Binh Dien residential area in the district.
Officers from the division detected the firm’s two cold storage warehouses were stowing more than 11.7 metric tons of vegetables packed in foreign-branded packages on November 9.
All these goods had no Vietnamese sub-labels and were not accompanied by invoices to prove their origin.
P.T.T., director of T.N., then admitted that the discovered vegetables were bought randomly in the market.
Officers booked the case and confiscated the amount of vegetables.
