-- Many trees were uprooted and a number of houses had their roofs blown off in Quang Ninh and the neighboring city of Hai Phong in northern Vietnam after Typhoon Kalmaegi made landfall on Tuesday night. There were no reports of casualties. More than 100 foreign tourists had been evacuated ahead of the typhoon’s arrival.

-- A Nigerian national, a contractor for an oil and gas company in Vietnam, has been hospitalized and isolated at Ba Ria – Vung Tau hospital in southern Vietnam after he came down with a fever – a potential symptom of Ebola.

-- The Hanoi Department of Transport and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) are scheduled to issue 200,000 bus e-tickets to public transport passengers on bus route No. 6, Giap Bat – Cau Gie, on October 6 under a pilot program.

Politics:

-- President Truong Tan Sang on Tuesday hosted a reception in Hanoi to receive Lao Defence Minister Sengnoune Sayalath, who is on his first working visit to Vietnam since taking office earlier this year. Minister Sayalath also met Vietnam’s National Assembly Chairman, Nguyen Sinh Hung, the same day.

-- During a recent meeting with Vietnamese Ambassador to Ukraine Nguyen Minh Tri in Kiev, President of Ukraine Petro Proshenco affirmed that the image of Vietnam is always in the heart of Ukrainian people.
