Police in Hanoi have launched a two-month campaign to crack down on crime in an effort to strengthen the protection of social order, safety and security.
>> Criminal cases in HCMC rise by 7% The campaign, scheduled to last from August 15 to October 15, will focus on areas seen as hot spots of criminal activities, including robberies and thefts, drug trafficking and abuse, prostitution, and others. During the campaign, police units will tighten their control, examination and inspection to bust criminal gangs and combat all social evils. Inspections will center on providers of cultural and recreational services; preparers and traders of pharmaceuticals and addictive substances; locations suspected to be used to grow plants containing narcotics. Any violations will be strictly punished. So far this year, police in Hanoi have uncovered nearly 2,400 drug-rated cases involving about 3,000 people and busted 105 prostitution cases involving 119 people, according to a report from the Steering Board for AIDS, Drugs and Prostitution Prevention and Control. In the last months of 2013, police in Hanoi will boost coordination with prosecutor’s offices and courts at all levels in accelerating the process of bringing criminals to trial.
Earlier this month, under the permission of the Ministry of Public Security, the Hanoi Police has set up a department for high-tech crime prevention and control, the first unit of its kind in the country. Such a department is necessary as cases in which criminals commit crimes using high technology have been on the rise in Hanoi as well as many other localities, police said.
